“On election night, look for an upset in House District 18 where Democrat Bryan Goldberg is challenging one-term Republican state Rep. Elaine Davis.
The most recent mailer, paid for by the Tennessee Republican Party, pictures the eyes of Goldberg and asks why he is hiding. It set up Goldberg to smash back like this:
“I sat by myself on Inside Tennessee with WBIR, the South Knoxville Business Association Forum, the League of Women Voters Forum, the United Campus Workers Forum and am the only candidate in this race at countless community events.
“I’m not hiding, but I know who is.” “
Knox News announces Eddie Mannis and Janet Testerman Endorsements
“Two notable Knox County Republicans are endorsing a Democratic candidate in the most competitive Tennessee House of Representatives race local voters will see on their ballots this year.
Bryan Goldberg is running to replace Republican state Rep. Elaine Davis in the 18th District. Former District 18 state Rep. Eddie Mannis and former Knoxville City Council member Janet Testerman said publicly they will vote for Goldberg over Davis.
But local Democrats feel confident they can flip the seat this year. Part of their confidence is the bipartisan endorsements of Goldberg, including one from former Knox County Republican Party Chair Michael McClamroch.”
“Bryan Goldberg, an energetic former competitive swimmer for the University of Tennessee and U.S. National Team presenting himself as a commonsense moderate.
That has made the race the most-watched among politicos of Knox County’s legislative contests this fall, as Democrats seek any way to put a dent in the state House GOP supermajority.”
Knox News dives into attack website
“The GOP website against Goldberg twists out of context a June 2023 receipt of payment that includes no information about the fraud case. The site lists the Goldbergs' home address, Goldberg's wife's name and says the family didn't pay penalties or interest with no explanation that the penalty was canceled.
The Knox County Trustee's Office told Knox News it canceled all penalty fees after determining the check was stolen.”
Knox News follows up on attacks
“Tennessee House of Representatives candidate Bryan Goldberg has sued House Republican leaders over an attack website that says he didn't pay property taxes on time when he actually was the victim of a crime.”
WBIR reports on lawsuit
“The complaint focuses on a website that went live last month by Republican politicos. A mailer making similar false statements about Goldberg also went out this week to residents of the 18th District.
Years before the upcoming November election, Goldberg said he was a victim of theft when some of his mail was stolen. The complaint said a check sent to pay for property taxes was modified and cashed by the thief, resulting in his property tax payment not being made.”

“The most competitive legislative race in Knox County is considered by both parties to be between GOP state Rep. Elaine Davis, who represents the 18th District, and Democrat Bryan Goldberg.”
Georgiana Vines for the Knoxville News Sentinel. Sept 23, 2024.
“Goldberg kicked off his campaign for District 18 State Representative with more than 150 people – Democrats, Republicans and independents – attending. His opponent in the Nov. 5 Election is Republican Rep. Elaine Davis. County Commissioner-elect Shane Jackson spoke, along with Councilman Andrew Roberto.”
Announcement from Knox News
“First-term state Rep. Elaine Davis will face a Democratic challenger this November. Bryan Goldberg entered the race Jan. 9 for Tennessee's 18th District, which includes west and south Knox County.
Goldberg considers himself a moderate Democrat. He told Knox News he was inspired to get into the race after receiving encouragement from across the aisle.
"Obviously, Democrats are unhappy with the direction of this state but it's even a lot of moderate Republicans," Goldberg said. "That caught me off guard. (Moderate Republicans) have no longer found a place within their own party but are also equally upset about the legislative agenda within our state."
He's passionate about gun reform, women's health care and public education.”
